How I Use Human Design to Sustainably Support My Business

I help clients understand and embody the higher expression of their unique Human Design, so naturally, I also use the system to support my business.

Initially, I went straight to my Mercury Gates to see how and what I’m designed to communicate — but as I’ve deepened my relationship with this system and embodied the learning, I’ve realized that’s such a narrow view. And the only impactful way Human Design can support business expansion is to take a holistic approach.

(If you’ve subscribed to fragmented and quick-fix Human Design business guidance, you may want to read why fragmented Human Design advice isn’t serving your business.)

Because, in Human Design, the sum is so much greater than the parts.

Here’s how I use it.

This article was written by a human, experiencing human things. Not AI. (Hi! 👋🏻) Because I believe that words are far more meaningful and powerful when there's open-hearted energy and lived experience behind them.

To Communicate The Energetic Signature I Bring to My Work

I’ve heard many clients and friends with soulful businesses say they can’t articulate what they do.

Because it’s not just reiki, or osteopathy, or coaching — energetically, they provide so much more.

They want to differentiate themselves but just…can’t.

I was the same. But when I deepened my understanding of Human Design and really looked at my chart holistically — beyond my Energy Type and Profile — I noticed a distinct flavour or storyline that weaved through it that encapsulated that felt energy so well.

I use keywords and concepts directly from my design, which provide so much clarity and resonance.

To anyone who knows me, it creates this distinct, “This is so you,” feeling.

And when I open a client’s chart, I typically get a sense of it right away. “Of course this is your chart!” is probably the most said phrase in my sessions because it’s so true.

Your chart reflects your unique energy. That essence that feels so elusive when trying to communicate it.

Using this insight yourself or sharing it with your marketing coach or writer can be so incredibly helpful!

To Help Identify Potential Pitfalls

Human Design has been really eye-opening when it comes to my shadows.

I’ve never been one to shy away from identifying my wounds, challenges, and triggers. As a Virgo moon, I love investigating and pondering my emotions.

But not all of the beliefs we feel are known to us. And unless you’re doing deeper work like gentle hypnosis or somatic parts work (we do this in my Somatic Uprise 13-week Immersion), some of these patterns remain unnoticed.

What’s cool, is each Gate or Gene Key has a shadow aspect that can hint at the fear-based patterns that may operate under the surface.

Once you identify these patterns in your chart, and then actually notice yourself living them out, you can’t unseen them.

This creates so much more self-awareness in your business. And helps you catch yourself before taking action from energy that can only lead to misalignment, closed doors, and frustration down the line.

To Prevent Burnout & Frustration

You operate within cycles. Planetary cycles, lunar cycles, seasonal cycles, your menstrual cycle (if you have one), etc.

And you also have an energetic cycle based on your Human Design chart. When you experiment with this cycle and learn to work with it, instead of pushing against it in the name of productivity, you become more productive, creative, and efficient and have less tendency to burn out.

For example, when my Root Center has it’s go time energy I know to if take action, I’ll accomplish a lot with no strain. And I respect that I work in bursts of focused energy rather than drawn out long days as a Projector with a lot of undefined Centers.

I used to wonder if I had chronic fatigue syndrome (seriously), but now I understand I was working against my natural cycle. And it was exhausting.

To Create the Most Energetically Aligned Workspace

My husband and I both have Mountains Environment in our charts.

In our home, I took the loft office space, and my husband was cool with the office/guest room in our finished basement.

Besides the fact that I don’t have a door (a feature that would be useful), I love my office. I have a huge window with a wide view all the way down the road, a massive painting of the ocean, and the openness to look downstairs. The energy feels elevated, open, and expansive.

My husband, on the other hand, isn’t a fan of the basement. He feels more energized and himself when he goes into the office, which is a tall corporate tower with a view.

It makes sense. In the basement, he’s in his transferred environment (Caves), which can feel soothing for shorter periods of time, but closed off and stagnant when in it regularly.

So, I’m thinking of ways to help him create a feeling of elevation and expanded perspective in the basement. Like a massive picture of a wide landscape view, decluttering, alternating with a standing desk, etc.

I’m also incorporating other areas of his chart that give us insight into his most aligned environment.

I’ll report back.

To Help Deprogram the Beliefs Limiting Business Growth

As you learn more about your Human Design chart, certain aspects feel highly resonant — it’s like receiving cosmic validation. And you realize how you’ve been pushing against what’s always felt natural in order to fit into the status quo. Basically my entire experience in corporate.

This recognition is the first step in deprogramming the beliefs holding you and your business back.

To Expand Confidence

Nothing is more confidence-boosting than seeing your chart reflect your uniqueness and understanding why what feels natural to you, is entirely different than trending business advice. (For example, 90-day reel challenges and my energy do not mix.)

When you drill down to the line, colour, tone, and base of each Gate, your chart is one in billions of configurations.

You weren’t designed to:

  • do things like anyone else

  • use business strategies like templates

  • or reproduce someone else’s success.

And when you allow this uniqueness to be your guiding light and hone into your personal strengths and gifts, you naturally resonate with the clients you’re designed to work with.

And the things the coaches warn you not to do in business can become the very things that attract your people.

Keep in mind that the essence of Human Design isn’t about fitting into types, following rules, or waiting for permission.

It’s about remembering your natural rhythm, your true power, and the life that’s been waiting for you once you stop pushing against your own energy.

Let’s shed light on your energetic ecosystem and how to use it for your business growth and branding through the lens of Human Design, interwoven with the wisdom of the Gene Keys, somatics, and Western Astrology.
