When You Feel Called to Create — But You’re Not Ready Yet

If you’d rather listen, this topic unfolds more fully on the podcast 🎧 — here’s the episode.

You Feel It

There’s a quiet inner knowing that something wants to be created through you. A book, a piece of art, a business…but then you go for it, and it just doesn’t feel right.

This is something I hear from clients, and I recently experienced it myself.

This article was written by a human, experiencing human things. Not AI. (Hi! 👋🏻) Because I believe that words are far more meaningful and powerful when there's open-hearted energy and lived experience behind them.

Why Isn’t This Working?

It took me 18 months to launch my podcast. Not because I wasn’t flooded with ideas — I’m surprised I haven’t hit my Apple Notes storage limit — but because something needed to shift before the podcast could come through me.

Because I was initially going to do a podcast with two other friends and experts who practiced complementary modalities, but it fell through. And then I decided to do an interview-style podcast, where the spotlight was really put on the other person — and I actually recorded two episodes, but there were audio issues and other challenges. And…it just didn’t work.

And throughout all of this, it didn’t feel easeful. I

t felt like I was pushing against something. But at the same time, it still felt like I was meant to do it. I could sense it intuitively — but also speaking my truth, advising, and helping others awaken to their potential, is very much tied to my own personal expansion and life mission in my Human Design chart.

Here’s what helped me move through this threshold.

I Dropped My Timeline

Contrary to what most coaches will tell you, firm timelines can create added pressure that leads to increased resistance.

I knew I could push through, but I also knew that if I did that, what I was creating would lose its magic. And the intention behind it would change from being of service to those wanting to explore holistic transformative work, to reaching my goal on my timeline.

I Kept My Pilot Light On

What does that mean?

I never fell into a place of feeling stuck or stalled, because I spent the time slowly laying the foundation for the podcast.

That way, when things finally started aligning, I could move forward without smaller admin tasks sucking up energy. I made the podcast cover art, I trademarked the name, and kept a list of episode topics and ideas.

And that kept my pilot light on — that little spark inside stayed lit.

I Did a Belief Audit

I’d always pictured myself doing the podcast with others, whether that meant with additional hosts or people I was interviewing.

And I realized that there was a part of me, tangled up so deeply inside that I didn’t even realize she was there, who…

  • didn’t believe I could record a podcast on my own.

  • didn’t believe my voice would be heard.

  • didn’t believe I had the magnetism to do bring in an audience.

And this part of me existed even after countless people had told me I should start a podcast, and after hearing from so many clients that I helped them experience big shifts in their lives.

So consciously, this belief didn’t make sense.

All that time, I thought I was searching for freedom, but really, I’d been searching for alignment with my natural design.

I Nurtured My Inner Protector

I knew that it had to be a deep inner wound, and that my inner protectors were doing everything they could to hold me back.

The concept of protector parts — so, aspects of you that may cause resistance or triggers or emotional reactions to keep you from re-experiencing pain — comes from a therapeutic approach called Internal Family Systems or parts work. And it’s something we explore in my 1:1 Somatic Uprise Immersion.

Instead of demonizing and pushing against this part of me, I learned why it was doing what it was doing, how it thought it was protecting me, and what it needed to create space for me to move forward.

And through this very nurturing approach to reaching my goal, resistance eased, and creating a podcast on my own transformed from feeling dangerous to expansive.

A great place to start with this psycho-somatic work is my free practice, The Somatic Reset.

If The Spark Is There, Nurture It

So, what I hope sharing my experience may light up in you is the remembering that if there’s something you want to do in your life — like start a business, or sell your art, or write a book — and you feel a sensation of excitement in your body, but things just aren’t aligning, ease up on yourself and turn towards the subtle resistance inside.

This isn’t a permission slip for inaction.

Small, consistent forward movement is key.

To anyone on the outside, it would look like I hadn’t made any progress on this podcast for a long time, but really, I was doing the deep work so it could be created with the energy of expansion, not resistance and urgency.

Step off the threshold and ease resistance with The Somatic Uprise 13-week immersion.

And check out The Sacred Threshold Hypnotic Journey to support your expansion.
