The Pluto Square Pluto Transit — How to Ride its Transformative Waves

If you’re in your late 30s and life feels like a rollercoaster, you may be experiencing the astrolgoical transit, Pluto Square Pluto.

Pluto Square Pluto is a change-making portal.

It’s a personal shake-up bringing you back to your soul’s intention, and it can be massively empowering — if you know how to work with it.

This article was written by a human, experiencing human things. Not AI. (Hi! 👋🏻) Because I believe that words are far more meaningful and powerful when there's open-hearted energy and lived experience behind them.

When is Pluto Square Pluto?

You'll likely feel the effects of Pluto Square Pluto sometime in your late 30s to early 40s, depending on your birthdate/birth chart (but timing varies significantly for each generation due to Pluto's retrograde patterns).

It happens when the transiting Pluto makes a square (an often challenging and activating aspect) with Pluto in your astrological chart.

Astrologers often track Pluto square Pluto using a 2° orb of influence. This approximate 2-year phase is when the transformative energy is the strongest, though your emotional and energetic integration period may stretch beyond it.

Pluto’s Symbolism

Pluto is the planet (well, dwarf planet — but still a powerful one) of birth, death, and transformation.

It represents the underworld, and through pressure and tension, it initiates you into facing your shadows and reclaiming your power.

The symbols that come up for me when I feel into the Pluto Square Pluto transit are the phoenix (the mythical Greek bird that cyclically dies in flames and is reborn from the ashes), the tower card in the tarot (that represents the destruction of the old to make way for the new), and the Delacroix painting, Liberty Leading the People.

What Impact Does the Pluto Square Pluto Transit Have?

Pluto Square Pluto is the extreme home makeover planet. It takes things down to rebuild something better.

It brings to light the wounded or abandoned parts buried in your shadows that you didn’t have the mental and emotional capacity or strength to deal with before — sometimes through events you can’t look away from.

You may find yourself facing the ripple effects of moments when you gave your power away or avoided something out of fear.

Tending to the wounded parts of you — through acknowledgment, reparenting, and integration — can shift you from feeling stuck in vulnerability to feeling grounded in empowerment and wholeness.

If you’re moving through this powerful time of transformation and you’d like some clarity, I’d be happy to support you in a 1:1 Human Design session or my Somatic Uprise 13-week immersion.

What Does Pluto Square Pluto Feel Like?

You may feel the urge to burn your career down and start all over, you may experience the crumbling of a long-term relationship, or finally start hearing and feeling the aspects of self that you denied and repressed most of your life.

Pluto Square Pluto isn’t torture via the cosmos; it’s big, bold, beautiful transformation.

This is a time to clear out what’s not working so you can rise into the next level of self. It may feel like it’s not for the faint of heart, but every single one of us moves through it. And as long as we don’t push against it, we come out the other side far better because of it.

And trust me, I understand it’s a wild ride.

Here’s a little bit of what happened during my Pluto Square Pluto midlife transit…

  • I was diagnosed with a rare chronic disease

  • I was told I wouldn’t be able to carry another child

  • My dad was diagnosed with Cancer, but told he had a solid 10 years of life ahead

  • I found out I was pregnant

  • covid hit, my freelance business halted, and I realized it wasn’t aligned anyway

  • I had a baby during the pandemic

  • My dad died less than a month later

  • I created this space for women

Yep, it was a whole lot — but it made me who I am today. And I love her.

Pluto Square Pluto is an Empowerment Portal

Even buried within the grief of my dad’s death was a positive catalyst for change. He was the brightest, funniest, friendliest man in the room, but he also spent most of his life stressed from working really hard in his career. Unfortunately, he left the earth only a year into his retirement.

His transition lit a fire inside me and had me replaying Wayne Dyer’s quote, “Don’t die with your music still in you,” over and over again.

I left my freelancing clients behind and decided to truly work for myself. It was a huge step outside of my comfort zone, but I began sharing the deep, energetic, and mystic knowledge I’d been accumulating and integrating for years behind my corporate persona.

I finally felt free.

If the pandemic hadn’t hit and my dad hadn’t passed, I don’t know how many years would have gone by before I made a heart-led career out of my true interests and embodied wisdom.

How to Ride the Waves of Your Pluto Square Pluto Transit

When clients in their late 30s come to me for Human Design Sessions, the first thing I check is if they’re in the Pluto Square Pluto orb of influence. If they are, there are specific areas of their chart I focus on to provide clarity, support, and empowerment.

You don’t have to move through this alone. I’m here if you need me. Just book an HD Clarity Session and mention Pluto Square Pluto in the intake form.

But either way, allow this incredible empowerment portal to shake you, show you how strong you are, and break you free from old, repetitive patterns. The Pluto Square Pluto transit is one of the most incredible opportunities for growth and transformation you'll experience in your lifetime.

But while riding the waves, also remember to do everything you can to nurture yourself: Eat the dark chocolate; book the treatment; go for the run; skip the party, and rewatch Emily in Paris in your sweats.

Remember, you’re not the ashes, you’re the phoenix. Rise, shake out your wings, and fly.
